However, it may have come to a point, now, that humans are needed to save as much of the biosphere as possible. The environmental movement has often been in error when trying to eliminate humans from wild areas. We are now finding out that the reason why forests did so well was in part because humans were managing good growth in them. We forget, in seeing ourselves as technical beings apart from nature, that humans are not exempt from the work all creatures do in contributing to biosphere management. We evolved together. So as the bees pollinate so do we have a part we play as a species. We just forgot what that was. Hartman has a chapter on remembering ancient knowledge and on the success of so called "primitive" tribes. My partner bought the book Collapse, but I have not read it since I couldn't get through Germs, Guns and Steel (too much detail). But I did read an excerpt about the civilizations that collapsed - Easter Island and the Norwegian tribe. Easter Island is a favorite example for collapse in recent dialogue. Then I read this article <a href="http://www.americanscientist.org/template/AssetDetail/assetid/53200?fulltext=true&print=yes">www.americanscientist.org/template/AssetDetail/assetid/53...</a> which reveals even more interesting details about the impact of the discovery of Easter Island by white people.
